Contrary to popular belief, Florida does, in fact, experience chilly winter months. It’s understandable that when people think of the Sunshine State, they think of pure sunshine and our stunning coastline. But, for those who call St. Augustine home, wintertime brings (mostly) mild weather, a wide array of events, and an overall relaxed pace of life. If you’re wondering what its REALLY like to live in STA during the cooler months, keep reading.

Mild and Comfortable Weather

When you think of winter weather, you may think of snow… but not in St. Augustine. From December to March, locals enjoy temperatures from the high 60s to the low 70s, with January being the coldest month, coming in at an average of 66°F to lows in the high 40s. Nighttime temperatures may dip into the 40s, offering the perfect excuse to cozy up with a light jacket or blanket (Oceanfront condo with a fireplace, anyone?). Most recently, though, we’ve experienced a colder-than-normal winter storm that brought us to the low 30s.

Winter Traditions

Winter in St. Augustine brings the community together through various events and traditions. The famous (and personal Kim Devlin Team favorite) Nights of Lights festival, for example, transforms the historic downtown area into a sparkling wonderland from mid-November through late January. Many locals and tourists make it a yearly tradition to stroll through the illuminated streets, visit local restaurants and shops, or enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride.

Outdoor Living at Its Best

For St. Augustine residents, winter is the perfect season to embrace outdoor living. Whether you’re walking your dog along the beach, biking through Anastasia State Park, or enjoying a round of golf, the mild weather makes it easy to stay active. Leave your huge coats at home and just throw on a light sweater. Trust me, you’ll be good to go!

Another MAJOR perk of winter in Florida? The beaches are less crowded, which means you’ll enjoy a peaceful escape to enjoy a picnic, fishing, or simply lounge around.

Why Residents Love Winter in St. Augustine
